Default Hydro foil ?

I have a 97 ranger 461vs powered by evinrude intruder 150. I was looking into getting one of these things SE Sport High Performance Hydrofoil

would anybody have any experience with these and are they worth the money, time and effort of install. A little concerned about drilling of holes if it doesn't work out

Have you ruled out other possible reasons for the chine walking and slow planing?

Such as engine setup and steering issues?

Boat weight distribution?

Trim angle? If you have power trim, do you understand how to adjust it properly?

All of those can cause both symptoms you are speaking of. They're free to mess with and better to fix the root cause than put a bandaid on the symptom.

Although I wouldn't say im an expert as for power trim I think im pretty good at it. My father has a tracker with a 50 merc w/power trim and I've used this boat on and off for the last 25 years, now I do realize this is a different animal with power, style and weight and obviuously much faster so im always willing to learn. I do feel I'm planing it out correctly at least according to leveling guage in boat. As for chine walking honestly have never heard of this up until a couple of weeks ago when my cousin was on my boat and I scared him claiming boat was chine walking (to me didn't seem to bad ) but I know little to nothing about it or what causes it. As for boat setup I am the second owner I would think weight distribution and setup is good but any help info can give would be very appreciated

Also, I don't know about that specific hull, but some hull's just plain chine walk at certain speeds. It comes down to the design.

Try slowing down a few mph, putting that little bit more of the hull in the water can reduce or often times even cure the chine walking problem. Odds are pretty good the Hydro foil will not cure the chine walking...

It can help boats that do not have power trim plane out faster, but with power trim, you shouldn't see any performance increases with the hydro foil.

Those hydro foils are nice... But They slow my boat down 8mph...

Like clarke stated.. Try moving some equipment around in the boat... If you dont care about your top speed. I would say get one...

I run one of these about half the year... When im doing alot of fishing.. I use one... But when i am ready to unleash the beast.. I ditch that bish... Makes my top speed go to hell and i think it makes my boat get freaky passed 55

Thanks Bob so I'm assuming the holes you have to drill don't have any affect on performance thats good to know. I'm not a real speed freak the lake that I do 90% of my fishing is tough to get top speed on anyway, lake is real busy especially this time of the year. I'm more concerned about keeping plane at slower speeds anyways I understand that I can play around with the power trim to achieve this but I was thinking this would make it easier to hold it. I'm going on a trip were I'll be pulling a tube with younger kids so I wont be able to fly with them on it. As far as moving equipment around there ain't much to move around that I think would make any difference. I've read alot of reviews on them and it seems it's a 50-50 split on pros and cons guess I'll just have to find out myself

If you are going to be pulling tubers... and fishing or what ever... Not working about top speed.. I would get one.. They really help getting on plane... Once you learn the trim system you will learn to were it needs to be and when you need to trim...

I always lower all the way... take off...plane... And then i trim up to where you will feel the boat get smoother... and everything.. Just a few seconds on the trim up button... Its like the boat frees up.. That will give you best for cruising...

If you are trying to get the max speed and rpm .. With no tubers... You can trim passed that.. But you will need to be on your toes... With firm grip on steering wheel... It can get sketchy... lol.. Do you have a water pressure gauge?? ... If not be care about trimming up too high as to you could trim it out of the water.... If you do have a pressure gauge... Just be sure pressure doesnt start falling off at all.
