Default 1970 Sears 3HP Outboard....I think

So, I finally got a boat motor for my 11 footer. However, it does not run. I picked it up for $40. The guy said that it did not have spark, but it does have good compression. It also looks like I might need to get a prop for it as well. It has a nice little chunk out of one of the blades and other various dings on it. I was wondering where I could find out more information on this motor, something along the lines of a factory service manual. Also this is my first boat motor so I would need some pointers on what to do for it before I throw it out on the water. Thanks.

Ok, so the motor runs now. I got it down to the points and when I saw them, I was pretty much 100% sure thats what was wrong because they were corroded pretty badly. Now, I didnt run it long but, I need to determine if this motor is air cooled or water cooled. What is the easiest way to tell? Thanks.

I would try to find a forum that talks about the sears motors... I dont know anything about those motors...

Also i wouldnt run it with a chunk out of the prop either.. That will cause a bad vibration and kill the engine completly...

check out iboats.com .. I think they have a section for them motors..

If the cylinders have fins on it... I would think its air cooled..

Model Number is 217.58540, Serial Number is 101955, Engine Tag Number is T-642-13. The motor is a Tecumseh, I'm definitely sure about this because of when I had it apart getting the motor running the name was all over the motor.
