not sure about Ohio, but here in WI, I've had real good results lately with a large white twisty tail/black jig and reeling in fast.

With anything really caught them on finesse worms, buzzbaits, cranks . If its really cold go slow if you have a decent temp fall spring type of thing go for whatever moves. I prefer buzzbaits watching them hit is fun. Spinnerbaits are also great

In Canada were we go for the toothy critters we use #4 Mepps with no bucktail 2/5 oz daredevils and in recent years we have been doing really well with 3 to 4 1/2 inch suspending jerk baits jerk it a couple times to get to depth and pause up to 10-15 seconds and repeat process all the way back to boat I've even let it sit there longer for some reason they can't handle it just sitting there, this is were they will strike most of the time. We use these sizes cause we like just catching them not worried so much on size we typically catch up to 10 lbs, sometimes up to 25 fish a day or more. hope this helps Good Luck

When I went to canada for northern pike we used a husky jerk that looked like a rainbow trout about 6" long, we would throw them out behind the boat nd troll the deep waters, we caught 15-20 fish a day, ranging from 4 lbs to 12 lbs. Great time, looking to do it again soon.

Lake Ontario is a spot I go to yearly. I use pike minnows and the pike go absolutely insane! Caught a good 6 or 7 that were legal to keep in an afternoon.
