Default New Fisherman Question-swivels?

Ok, I am new to fishing, just bought a kayak and am getting into Bass fishing. I need to quickly switch from a crankbait to a worm or spinner. Is it okay to tie on a small swivel to make switching the lures easier, or does the swivel screw up a lures action? Thanks

It depends on what, where, an how your fishing. For instance I don't use swivels when fishing for trout in streams, or when using small top water plugs. I will use swivels for larger lures to quickly change up my game, but it's all about presentation.

for bass fishing i wouldnt. swivels and snaps are more for bigger game fish like gulf fish, catfish, halibut. stuff like that. the thing i would say do is either rig up 2 poles or get good at biting and tieing lol. its easy with mono cuz its not hard to bite through and a cinch knot is really easy

It would be best to not use a swivel. The weak link between you and the fish is the knot, with a lot of use the knot will get weaker from wear. Cut and retie often, and use a knot that is strong and easy to tie.My favorite is the uniknot,I've used it for 20 yrs or so with no problems.

If you're using braid, try the palomar knot. Extremely quick and simple to tie.

I would not use a swivel unless in pretty stained water and even then i won't use them on worms only on cranks.

Only when the lure could possibly twist up, I use them northern pike fishing because the red eye gets twisted sometimes. I do like them though, dot have to take the time to tie the knot every time I want to try a different lure.

I use a sqivel on everything except ice fishing. I could care less if I caught a few less fish a day. I would hate to have to keep on cutting and retieing knots all the time. But as someone else already said, the knot is the weakest part of the line so make sure that the knot you tie is a good one.
