I like a plastic worm on a carolina rig...plastic color of choice either watermelon seed or pumpkin.

Have to say soft plastics worms I like them with weighted hooks for swimbaits keeping it light let's it sink slow but still adds weight to cast nice. Love spinners with multiple blades. Getting into crankbaits lately but lipless cranks are good almost year round. Favorite soft is finesse worms (zoom),booyah spinners, netbait craws.

I 'm gonna be bold here and pretty much state that wacky style rigging is taking over the bass fishing world for fresh water. It's limitless and deadly. My preferred bait company of choice: Jackall worms. The action is like none other with Jackalls paired wacky jig head. You will not be disappointed!!!!!

I prefer berkley power worms (plastic) red works best for me. Rig it with a weedless hook and screw on bullet weight.... And start reeling them in!

I do agree that the traditional Texas rig will always be a staple way to go to produce results.
