Default dumb question

What kind of gear should i get if i want to go fishing off a pier into the ocean? im new to the whole thing so i dont really know that much

it depends on what u want to catch. for spanish and sheepshead u can get a 2500-3000 series reel. one like u would cast for inshore. put 20lb braid on it with a leader of either 50lb mono or 7-strand wire and a gold Gotcha lure for spanish or just drop a fiddler crab on a #2 hook for sheepshead.

for bigger king mackrel youll need a cobia rig with wire leader and a king/cobia jig.

if u need specifics just ask

just get a decent setup and ask around to other people fishing t see what bait to use. hope this helps

Check your local tackle shop ask some questions they'll point you towards good spots, what to use, techniques etc and when you find what you like you can focus there or bounce around :-) good luck in my first season I targeted everything. Iv decided my favorite so far are smallies those suckers are acrobatic.
