When I was a kayak nature guide we always used Wilderness Systems. The ones we had were nothing fancy, but they sure did hold up pretty well to abuse on rocks and oyster shells, etc...

I would definitely look at wilderness systems kayaks, I had one for years and it paddled great and held up to anything I threw it's way.

Wilderness System's are very nice, but are a bit pricey. I am currently looking at Eagle Run Yak made by Field and Stream at Dick's Sporting goods. Looks like a pretty good kayak and a great price! The color online is terrible but the ones in store are way better!

Mine is a Mainstream Kingfish, and my wife has a Perception Pescador 10. Both are good solid and stable boats. Gotta think about what you want to do with it. If you want a fast boat, a fishing kayak may feel slow. But I can just about stand up in mine if I want to, and is very stable in very rough water. So do some comparison shopping on the net and see if you can find something that matches your needs. There is a pic of mine in the other thread in this section. Good luck!

Oh and many brands offer some really nice boats, but also a lower quality entry level boat that is inexpensive. So be aware of something that is a good brand but may not be as good as you thought. One thing I did was make sure the weight limits were well over my weight, so it would float higher in the water. Otherwise they bog down a bit and have no performance.
